Elder Team Update

Hey Summit Crossing family!

Shelly and I (Chris Snitko) have been a part of the Summit Crossing family since 2006, and I have served as an elder since 2008. In 2009, we moved to the East Limestone area and began leading a Missional Community in our home. We were excited when a little over seven years ago the four Missional Communities in Limestone and Athens began gathering and praying about planting a church in Athens. We watched God faithfully orchestrate everything to make this happen, including seeing God call Jamey Nettles and Sean Carter to be part of the church plant by selling their homes and moving to the area. We watched God find the original location that we quickly outgrew, then we watched God lead us to the location where we are currently worshiping on Sundays. There are countless stories of us elders faithfully praying, yet in our flesh having many doubts. Yet the faithful One continually led us to where we are today.  Since the time the Limestone church plant began, we have added two elders, Joey Thompson and more recently Joel McCarty. We watched God provide the right staff at the right time and all His provisions along the way. It has been such a blessing and worshipful time in our lives!

Around the time we started the Missional Community gatherings, our daughter Lauren got married to her husband Ben, and they continued worshipping at our Summit Crossing Madison location. It was great for them so they could establish their own identity there. Instead of Lauren being identified as “Chris and Shelly’s daughter”, they became “Ben and Lauren Fowler”.  Here we are now, seven years later, with three grandsons who love their Papa and Nana! And as grandparents, we feel drawn to be back together again as an entire family.

We want to go to lunch with them after church and hear the boys talk about what they learned in church that day. We want to know who is in our family’s lives and to encourage them as they grow in their faith together. So, together, Shelly and I have made the decision to move our membership back to our Summit Crossing Madison family. While we will still be close to you all in our hearts, this also means that I will be officially stepping down from my role as an elder serving the Summit Crossing Limestone body.

Was this a hard decision? Yes! The depth of love for the other elders has grown deeper each year and the relationships that we have with the Summit Crossing community in Limestone are precious. We praise God for what He has done these past seven years, and we are excited for what He has in store in the future. Please know that even though we won’t be gathering with you anymore on Sundays, we will continually be praying and praising God for what He is doing in Athens, Limestone, and to the ends of the earth.

*As an Elder Team, we want to publicly thank Chris and Shelly for their many years of sacrifice and service here at Summit Crossing Limestone. Chris has served as an elder from day one of our church plant, Shelly has discipled multiple women in the gospel, and together they have poured into many marriages through the years. Chris and Shelly will be greatly missed, but we are excited about what the future holds for them and their family.
