Renew | 2019 Vision Series
Hey Summit Crossing Limestone family!
We are so excited about what God has been doing within our church, and we wait eagerly with anticipation to see what God has in store for us this upcoming year! As we have spent some time reflecting on this past year and dreaming about where we are heading in 2019, we thought it would be helpful to communicate a few things to you all.
First of all, we wanted to express our appreciation for each of you as we have labored side by side for the sake of gospel expansion here in Limestone County and beyond. It is with great joy that we get to partner in this endeavor together, with Jesus as our leader and chief shepherd. The way you selflessly give, serve, and go on mission never ceases to amaze us, and we are often in awe when we step back and consider what a gift you are, not only to us but to the Kingdom of God. We want to encourage you to continue laboring to make the name of Jesus famous, as your labor is not in vain. We are utterly confident that God will complete the work in each of us that He has started, not because any of us are great people, but because King Jesus has promised that He would do it. So be encouraged, church! The gates of hell cannot prevail against the mission God has placed us on!
2019 Vision Series
We also wanted to share our excitement for this upcoming year. In the past, to kick off the new year, we have always begun our time of teaching on Sunday mornings with a Vision Series, and these have typically lasted anywhere from two to four weeks. This year, however, there is a lot we are excited about, and so we are going to extend the series into February to last eight weeks. We are thrilled to embark on this short journey with you, as we will spend some time renewing our hearts and minds on the importance of the gospel, looking at what it means to be in union and abide with Jesus, and the purpose of the church in fulfilling the mission of God. We are entitling this series, "RENEW", and we are asking each of you to begin preparing your hearts and minds even now, asking God to renew us corporately as His people. In Romans 12:2, the apostle Paul reminds us that transformation comes not from trying harder or doing more, but instead from the renewing of our minds. And this renewal flows only from a heart of worship as we dwell on the riches and knowledge of God, and walking in union with Him through Jesus the Messiah. This is the desire for our body. That we would seek to bear fruit out of the overflow that comes from abiding in Jesus. May the Spirit of God make it so.
Missional Community Update
As we have considered the importance of spending this time sitting at the feet of Jesus together, we have also processed what this could look like for a people who are busy with the everyday matters of life. Because of the importance of this time together, we want to make sure that we are all able to be singularly focused as we seek to be with Jesus together. To that end, we have decided on providing an optional rest period from the weekly rhythm of the Missional Community structure, so together, as one body, we can renew our hearts on the mission of Summit Crossing - making disciples - and the purpose and importance of Missional Community in accomplishing that mission. If you are currently in a Missional Community group, you will hear more about this optional rest period from your leader at some point in the near future. And if you are not currently in a group, then we encourage you to come into this Vision Series ready to engage. Whether you have never been in a group, or you once were and are now disconnected due to various circumstances, you will have an opportunity to connect with a group at the end of the series (if you wish to). Our prayer is that this optional season of rest will support the renewal of our hearts and minds and that we will relaunch back into the regular rhythm of our Missional Communities refreshed and excited about going on mission together with King Jesus.
So, no matter who you are, and no matter your current level of engagement, we ask you to come on Sunday, January 6th, with a mind and heart ready to be renewed and refreshed in the good news of Jesus. We absolutely cannot wait to embark on this journey together with you all!
