VISION & MISSION

Vision&Mission&Strategy.jpg

VISION

to see the kingdom and glory of God advance from the neighborhoods to the nations

After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”
Revelation 7:9-10

MISSION

Discipleship+Framework.jpg

to make disciples that make disciples by knowing the gospel, connecting in gospel relationships, and living out the gospel in the world around us

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:18-20

VALUES

Centered on Christ
Faithful to the Scriptures

STRATEGY

Discipleship Framework

WHAT IS THE FOUNDATION FOR EVERYTHING WE DO?

THE GOOD NEWS OF THE KINGDOM IS NOT JUST PERSONAL, IT IS COSMIC AND ETERNAL

The gospel is a cosmic plan that was set forth from the beginning of time.

HUMANITY CANNOT SAVE THEMSELVES

ADAM & EVE
The original plan for Adam and Eve was to spread the glory of God by being good and wise stewards over all of God's creation. But they desired to be their own gods and to make their own rules, so sin entered the world.

So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband whowas with her, and he ate.
Genesis 3:6

Humanity has been struggling ever since.

ISRAEL
As the people of God, Israel was to be a light to the nations, to show the world what a people wholly submitted to a good and wise King would look like.

Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine; and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.
Exodus 19:5-6

All of life, the laws, the feasts, and the rituals were meant to show the entire world what it was like to submit to the good rule and reign of Jesus. It was to attract all the nations to have God as their ruler.

But as we often do, Israel forgot the reason for the party, the reason for the celebration, and began to narrow their relationship with Yahweh to simply rules and religion.

All through Scripture, we see that Israel failed to follow Yahweh and remain faithful. They were the cheating spouse.

Yet we still see promises that redemption awaited, and that one day, Israel would be won back to Yahweh and be restored.

JESUS, THE TRUE AND BETTER ADAM, THE TRUE AND BETTER ISRAEL

Jesus does what Israel could not. He displayed to the world perfectly what kingdom advancement looked like in the everyday stuff of life, fully dependent on God.

After thirty years, He then began to display more clearly the kingdom and started the process of restoring creation to what it was originally meant to be. He is undoing the curse. The serpent-crusher is here.

JESUS SAVES US FROM OUR OWN REBELLION
PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE

We must be reminded of the whole gospel.

PAST SALVATION FROM THE PENALTY OF SIN
JESUS DID IT BETTER

Because of Jesus, we are saved from having to live the perfect life, from having to live for approval from the Father or anyone else.

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:23

For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
Colossians 3:3

PRESENT SALVATION FROM THE POWER OF SIN
JESUS DOES IT BETTER

Because of Jesus, we are still being saved and held fast. The good news is not only a past event. Through His Spirit we will grow and be sanctified because He is at work.

Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.
I Corinthians 15:1-2

FUTURE SALVATION FROM THE PRESENCE OF SIN
JESUS WILL MAKE IT BETTER

We do not have to be led by fear, because we are sealed in Jesus. And we can trust with full assurance and complete hope that God will make all things new.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation readyto be revealed in the last time.
I Peter 1:3-5

And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
Philippians 1:6

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE FOR ALL WE DO?

WHAT IS A DISCIPLE?

When Jesus called the first of his disciples, he said, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Matthew 4: 19). They had been fishermen, but Jesus was calling them to fish for people. They responded by leaving everything— their families, their careers, their futures— to follow Jesus. It started in a boat and went out to the world. Those first disciples radically recentered everything in their lives around Jesus, his teaching, and his mission. Their lives became all about Jesus! He was that important to them.
Jeff Vanderstelt & Ben Connelly (Saturate Field Guide)

If what Jesus has done is true, then we cannot look on His good news and remain unchanged. These truths call for a massive reorienting of our lives around this mission.

We are all called to play a part. Everything God has done to us He desires to now do through us.

GOD'S GLORY SHOWN IN ALL OF LIFE THROUGH NORMAL, EVERYDAY PEOPLE

"For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea."
Habbakuk 2:14

"And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all."
Ephesians 1:22-23

EVERYDAY DISCIPLESHIP | JEFF VANDERSTELT
www.saturatetheworld.com

We desire to see all of creation submitted to Jesus in all of life, and everyone is a part. If you are a follower of Jesus, you have a place in this Kingdom advancement.

The disciples weren't professionals or scholars. They were normal, everyday people who responded to the call of the Messiah to give their lives for His kingdom and mission.

GOSPEL CENTRALITY
The gospel is at the center of all we do.

GOSPEL SATURATION
The gospel saturates all that we do.

GOSPEL FLUENCY
We speak the gospel in all that we do.

LIFE ON LIFE
Making disciples must be done up close and personal. This is authentic, real, and transformative.

LIFE IN COMMUNITY
Making disciples must be done in community. We cannot make display Jesus to each other alone.

LIFE ON MISSION
Making disciples must be done while on mission. We do not wait until we are "qualified".

THE CHURCH

This is who we are a part of as the church of Jesus. In every way and in all of life we are called to be the church. Jesus didn’t redeem us just so we could “do” the "Christian" stuff and go to "Christian" events. He came to unite a people unto Himself, a people that were willing to sell everything they have to chase this pearl of great price.

TYPICAL FALSE VIEWS OF THE CHURCH
building // programs and events // leaders who run programs and events

TRUE VIEW OF THE CHURCH
The people of God, doing the work of God, empowered by the Spirit of God, for the glory of God.

We are not a come-and-see people. We are called to be a go-and-tell people in every sphere of life. We all have the power of the Spirit.
